Designing Your Condo Space

When it comes to buying a home today, there are two basic categories from which people have to choose. Either they move into a condominium, or a stand alone house as their purchase. The availability of the two is one of the determining factors when it comes to the decision. For example, in Lindsay Ontario houses are pretty much the only option. The size of the community means that developers opt out of the condo market altogether.

However, in large Canadian cities, condos are often the only housing options which are affordable and close to major places of entertainment and employment. Ottawa, Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, and other big cities have seen an incredible rise in the number of condo sales and developments as people take advantage of what this living choice has to offer.

Often, people are reluctant to buy condos as they believe their ability to truly make a house into a home will be limited. One of the big appeals of your own stand alone home is that you can make renovations and additions as you see fit, without having to ask much permission. Designing condo space, however, is a bit of a different story. Community living means that you are accountable to others for the changes you want to make to Port Credit homes in the condominium style.

Still, there are plenty of chances to add that touch of personality to your condominium. We are just saying that before you embark on any major changes, make sure that they are approved by the managing company first.

So what are the changes you can make to your condominium space to give it more of a sense of personal style? Well, for the most part, they involve using the space you have effectively. Condo living means living within a somewhat enclosed space; you don't have the room to work that you might have with a piece of Leaside real estate, for example. The first step in designing your condo space is to maximize the room you do have.

That's why open concept, multi use furniture is so popular among condominium owners. Sofas and love seats are often used in place of walls in order to divide one room from the next. With this step, it's easy to use the living space not only as an entertainment room, but a dining and even a play room as well. Coffee and end tables can be used as dining surfaces, all without compromising the design integrity of your condo space.

Now, it's likely that you will still want formal spaces for each task in your house, and you can place the furniture accordingly. An open kitchen means that both dining and living spaces can be included in the same big area, once again divided not by walls but simply by the furniture. Typically, dining tables and chairs will be set up closer to windows in an open floor plan, which makes them ideal spots to set up a home office as well (provided you prefer a laptop over a PC of course!).

You need not be limited by your intentions to personalize your living space when you are looking at a good home sale. Whitby, London, and many other Ontario cities have well priced condominiums that you can design just as effectively as a stand-alone home. You just have to think on a smaller scale!
